Orange barrels bloom along Sylvania Avenue

Construction season kicks into high gear Monday as the heavily-traveled Sylvania Ave. begins a two-week shutdown.
The Lucas County Engineer's Office will close both directions of the roadway, between Holland-Sylvania and Corey Rd., for the next 14 days. Crews will work to rehabilitate and resurface the deck of a bridge running over the Ottawa River.
In addition to bridge work, crews will also replace drainage along the road, repair curbs, and repave surfaces.
The project is expected to be complete by June 17.
Motorists should use posted detours at Talmadge Road and at Holland-Sylvania to Central Avenue.
West Toledo drivers got an early dose of orange barrel fatigue with the March start of a $5.5 million project along Secor Rd. That project includes work on waterlines and repairs to the roadway, just south of I-475. A 10-day closing of the ramps to I-475 from Secor Rd. has been postponed due to weather.
