Oregon City Schools hire new superintendent

Lonna River is the incoming Oregon City Public Schools superintendent.

An Oregon native returns home as the new district's superintendent for incoming 2013 school year.

Lonny Rivera was hired as the new Oregon City Schools superintendent in a unanimous vote. He will replace outgoing Superintendent Mike Zalar and start working August 1. Rivera will make about $120,000 a year for four years.

Rivera will leave his previous position as a principal at Wayne Trail Elementary School in Maumee. He has been in education for 17 years. Oregon City Schools narrowed down the search Tuesday between Rivera and Dr. Deborah Piotrowski, who was a superintendent Millcrest West Unity School District .
