Ottawa County sheriff cited in vehicle crash

The Ottawa County Sheriff has been cited for causing a three-vehicle crash last week on Ohio SR 51.

Sheriff Bob Bratton, 54, of Genoa, was cited with failure to maintain an assured clear distance ahead, Clay Township Police Chief Roger Schultze said.

The driver of the pickup Bratton hit Friday has pleaded not guilty to one misdemeanor count each of drunken driving and leaving the scene of an accident.

Bratton was driving a 2000 unmarked Dodge Durango and was on-duty at the time of the crash. He had been talking to a dispatcher and was putting the microphone down when he hit the pickup truck.
