Owens EMT program now available for free to qualifying TPS students

Toledo Public Schools and Owens Community College are giving students a unique opportunity.

They can now graduate with a basic Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification.

Students who wish to apply must have satisfactory ACCUPLACER test scores, turn 18 years old by March 1, get parental consent and pass a physical exam. Recent sports physicals will be accepted.

"We got introduced to it last year and I felt like it was going to be big for the City of Toledo," said Rogers High Senior Christian Smith. "I've been looking for a career I can use and this is a great opportunity just to have me pick a career for. I want to be a firefighter now so this is this is really a good opportunity for the City of Toledo, for me and the rest of the kids."

Tuition and fees for the program will be covered by Toledo Public Schools.
