Parents have raised their concerns following the announcement of closing the Horizon Science Academy in downtown Toledo.
Last week, the parents of nearly 300 students who attend the Horizon Science Academy on Jefferson Street in downtown Toledo were notified that the school would close next month. On May 17, the Horizon Science Academy-Toledo Downtown Board of Directors voted to close the Jefferson Ave. school.
Carolyn Martin's son attends the school. "I'm upset because I don't know, where we are going to send my son," Ms. Martin said.
Martin says her son has made remarkable progress at HSA. "He has ADHD, and he's been working really well with the alphabet because he didn't know much when he started in kindergarten," Ms. Martin said.
All students and staff have the option of transferring to either of Horizon's other two Toledo locations.
The Jefferson Avenue HSA opened in 2010. The location does not have the space for state of the art science and computer labs like those at Horizon's other Toledo schools.
Administrators have been frustrated in their search for a more suitable building.
