Perrysburg doctor convicted in $100K+ fraud case

A Perrysburg physician has been convicted of fraud and corrupt activity after an investigation revealed she pocketed more than $100,000 from improper billing practices.

The Ohio Department of Insurance says that from 2004 to 2009, Dr. Stacey Royal ran the Royal Treatment Urgent Care, 1090 W. South Boundary, and billed insurance carriers nearly $1 million for services she never provided. As a result of the fraudulent billing practices, Royal received more than $100,000 in payments.

Royal has been convicted on multiple felony charges of insurance fraud, telecommunicatons fraud, theft and engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity. She will be sentenced in Wood County Common Pleas court on Oct. 22.
