Perrysburg Firefighters Union President fires back against mayor

The President of the Perrysburg firefightersâ?? union isnâ??t backing down in his fight to get the minimum shift back to five.

Perrysburg mayor Mike Olmstead dropped the minimum number of firefighters on duty from five to four indefinitely. His decision was discussed at a recent city council meeting.

â??Weâ??re not going backwards,â?? Olmstead said in defense of his plan, â??Weâ??re continuing a practice that we have done for months now."

Now Local 3331 President Pete Scarborough is requesting a safety presentation for city council members.

â??Weâ??re rolling the dice somewhat with our own personal safety,â?? Scarborough said. â??But thatâ??s a job we take. The public should not have to accept the risks as we do.â??

Perrysburgâ??s Fire Chief says the change saved the city more than $21,000 dollars this year. He helped make the decision with the mayor.

City officials say theyâ??re still evaluating their options.
