M ore than 300 graduating seniors had a lot to celebrate at Perrysburg High School on Wednesday. Not only was it the last day of school, but ten finalists had the chance to drive off in a brand new car.
For the fifth consecutive year, Steve Taylor of Taylor Hyundai of Perrysburg awarded a graduating Perrysburg senior with a new vehicle.
This year's winner, Melissa Schoenlein, was among 2,000 others who took part in the "Driven to Succeed" program. Her name was drawn Wednesday, giving her a brand new 2014 Hyundai Elantra.
"I'm pretty sure that this isn't real, but it is," Melissa said. "I share my car with my mom, so that problem is solved now."
Melissa will attend Bowling Green State University in the fall.
The Driven to Succeed program was established by Taylor in 2009 to reward Perrysburg High School students who strive for excellence in their senior year. In 2013, Taylor expanded the program to include all 28 high schools in Lucas County, believing that the entire community can benefit by honoring and promoting well-rounded students.
"We think it's important to give back to our community and help motivate students to achieve academic excellence and get involved and connected to the Toledo area," said Taylor. "The encouragement of positive actions will enable students to commit and strive towards achievable goals in their senior year, future careers, and personal lives."
