Petty infighting among Lucas Co. Board of Elections members, directors leads to dismissal letters

Based on recommendations from the Transparency Committee, Secretary of State Jon Husted sent out these letters to board members and directors Monday.

After a four-week inquiry into dysfunction at the Lucas County Board of Elections, the state of Ohio has started the process of removing the board's directors along with three members.

A state transparency board was appointed by Ohio Secretary of State John Husted in April to investigate ongoing neglect of duty seen within the board.

On Friday, the committee recommend to Sec. Husted that board members Tony DeGidio, Ron Rothenbuhler, and Jon Stainbrook be replaced, along with Director Gina Kaczala and Deputy Director Dan DeAngelis.

Husted sent letters to the five officials on Monday, advising them of his decision to remove them from their positions due to their lack of responsibility to voters. "In Lucas County, the petty infighting, personality conflicts and sloppy administration have gone on long enough," Husted wrote to each official. "I simply cannot jeopardize the integrity of future elections in Lucas County. The citizens and voters deserve better."

Each official will be heard as to why they should not be removed from their position at a hearing Thursday.

Husted has explained to each official that they may resign prior to the Thursday hearing by notifying him in writing no later than Noon Tuesday.
