Nearly 40 local developmentally-disabled adults were treated to the annual Harbor View Yacht Club river cruise and picnic on Saturday. At 10 a.m., 12 boats departed for the trip along the Maumee River.

The residents from the Wiley Homes ranged in age from 24 to 91 years old.

"It is truly a special time every year for them. They look forward to this all year long," said Marie Cousino, entertainment director for the Yacht Club and LPN for Wiley Homes. "As soon as we are done, they wanted to go again. The joy and expression on their faces is priceless."

Cousino said the cruise began years ago, and after a temporary break, she rekindled the effort in 2007. Since then, the Harbor View Yacht Club kept the event growing by getting more residents and boaters involved.

"There are over 125 people involved in making this special day happen for the residents," Cousino said.
