Plane crash in Lenawee County injures two

Two people were seriously injured after a single engine airplane crashed into a field near the Lenawee County Airport around 10:00 a.m. Friday.

The Lenawee County Sheriff's Office says the a female occupant of the plane made was able to get to the road where she flagged down a passing motorist who called 911.

Both occupants were alert and communicating with first-responders but needed to be transported to Toledo for treatment.

Undersheriff Troy Bevier says the department was not made aware of the situation until 2:20 p.m.

The crash happened on Lyons Highway between Sand Creek Highway and Gorman Road in Madison Township.

The Federal Aviation Administration is expected to assume a role in the investigation.
