COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Ohio's insurance fund for injured workers has hired a veteran police officer to lead the agency's efforts against workers' comp fraud. Rick Gregory will oversee 123 employees at the Bureau of Workers' Compensation Special Investigations Department. The division was created 20 years ago to fight fraud in the workers' comp system, whether it is employees faking injuries while receiving disability or companies hiding employees to lower their rates. The 51-year-old Gregory was most recently police chief in Provo, Utah. He also served as police chief in New Castle County, Delaware, and worked for the Florida Highway Patrol for two decades. Gregory says his goals include expanding work the fraud unit does with other state and federal law enforcement agencies.
