Tue, 13 Jul 2010 03:41:09 GMT — Way back in 1858 H.H. Birkenkamp opened Toledo's first funeral home. The building stood on the corner of Broadway and Jarvis in Toledo's Old South End until Sunday when it was felled by an apparent act of arson. Susan Birkenkamp, the great-great granddaughter of H.H. Birkenkamp visited the ruins of her family's business once again on Monday. "My great-great grandfather started the business; that's when Broadway was all dirt roads and we used to have 36 white horses parked here in the stables," Mrs. Birkenkamp said. Toledo Fire Department investigators have determined the blaze was deliberately set and are seeking tips to solve the case. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stopper at 419-255-111.
