Chris Varwig is the parent and grandparent of students who have or are attending Toledo Public Schools. She welcomes the state's investigation into how TPS recorded attendance at some of its schools but is satisfied there was no wrongdoing. "It's great to have accountability but at the same time I don't hink anyone's cooking the books," Mrs. Varwig said. On Thursday the State auditor of Ohio Dave Yost released a preliminary report of his investigation into how Ohio school districts reported truancy and attendance figures. 8 schools within TPS were singled out- Scott, Rogers and Start high schools and Byrnedale, Samuel M. Jones at Gunckel Park, Leverette, East Broadway and McTigue elementary schools.
Varwig is a board member of the TPS Parent Congress which is a liason between parents and the TPS administration. She says she was glad to se that Yost acknowledged that TPS leaders had cooperated in the investigation. "I actually give the adminsitration credit for stepping forward and bringing it to the attention of the state," Mrs. Varwig said.
