CLEVELAND (AP) - Records show that while the Democratic candidate for Ohio governor was mayor of a Cleveland suburb, he put gas in city vehicles despite not having a valid driver's license or a temporary driving permit at the time.
Records obtained by The Associated Press show current Cuyahoga County executive Ed FitzGerald fueled city vehicles 37 times between July 2009 and October 2010 while serving as Lakewood mayor.
His county office referred questions about that to Lakewood. The city's law director says he doesn't know if FitzGerald was driving by himself when he fueled the vehicles.
A county spokesman acknowledges FitzGerald drove county cars by himself before obtaining a license on Nov. 15, 2012. FitzGerald became county executive in January 2011.
The spokesman says FitzGerald has taken responsibility for his mistakes.
