The Red Cross is in urgent need of blood of all types, but especially types O negative, A negative, and B negative, according to Annie Marckel, spokesperson for the American Red Cross.
Despite the ongoing efforts to call and email blood donors, the local Red Cross has been unable to meet many blood orders for local hospitals in the timeliest manner. Type O negative has bee placed on back order. Only hospitals with immediate and specific need for a specific patient are receiving O negative blood.
A similar, urgent appeal for donors was made by the Michigan Red Cross.
Ohio donors can donate Friday until 2:00 PM at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center and Saturday at Fremont Alliance Church, 936 Brush St. The Toledo Red Cross donor center at 3510 Executive Parkway is open until 4:00 PM Friday and open from 7:00 AM to 2:00 PM Saturday.

This summer, everyone who attempts to donate blood has a chance to win a $250 Meijer gift card, a $125 Meijer gift card, and/or a $500 gift card to Best Buy.
Are you a regular blood donor? If so, what motivates you to give blood? If not, what keeps you from giving blood?
