Report: Erie County inmate died from blood clot

The death of an Erie County inmate was the result of natural causes.

An autopsy report reveals the inmate found unresponsive at the Erie County jail early Tuesday died of natural causes.

The coroner told The Sandusky Register that a blood clot in 47-year-old Robert Baswell's leg "broke loose and entered his lungs."

The paper reports Baswell had been to the hospital four times since he fell in the shower on Jan. 25. Doctors performed two CAT scans and didn't find anything abnormal.

Baswell was last seen alive by corrections officers during rounds at 2:45 a.m. Five minutes later, he was found blue and unresponsive.
