Toledo City Council will formally receive Mayor Mike Bell's capital improvement budget for 2013. That budget includes $4.5 million in funds for the construction of a new fire station and the repair of an existing one. The mayor is proposing a new Fire Staion 12 in North Toledo near Jamie Farr Park. The price tag is $2.7 million. Fire Station 3 on Bush St. in North Toledo will receive a $1.8 million upgrade.
Back in September Fire Station 3 was closed due to a hole in one of the floors. North Toledo resident Sy Kreais is one of the many residents who lives near the 85-year-old building who made many calls to the mayor's office urging that Fire Station 3 be saved. "It's a safe harbor for the children; we have the best firefighters in the city and we don't want to lose them," Mr. Kreais said.
