Toledo police blocked off roads in downtown Toledo early Wednesday morning due to smoke rising from the manholes. Authorities confirmed an underground fire as some of the manholes have blown off.
It happened around Cherry and Summitt streets in downtown Toledo when authorities were called out to the scene around 1 a.m.
A representative from Toledo Edison told WNWO a secondary electric surge caused three manhole explosions.
Officials said they are working on containing the fire and the repairs to the road could last until Thursday.
WNWO will have the latest updates as the story develops.
