Rossford fire chief to resign after improper conduct allegations

Rossford's fire chief will retire at the end of March after being urged to do so by the city's administration.

The city of Rossford says Fire Chief James Verbosky was given the options to resign, retire from his position, or face termination after determining he could not lead the fire department on a long-term basis.

The city led an investigation into unspecified allegations of improper misconduct, and later determined that Verbosky had engaged in conduct that demonstrated poor judgement. The conduct did not pose a threat to Rossford residents or effect operation of the fire department; however, city officials presented the fire chief with options to vacate his position.

A statement released to the media on Thursday failed to give further details.

Chief Verbosky has indicated to the city that he will retire from his position effective March 31, 2014.
