Several acres of land in South Toledo, once occupied by the YMCA, is a step closer to going to the dogs.

On Tuesday, Toledo's City Council approved requests by the group "Toledo Unleashed" to re-zone land near Woodsdale Park and allow construction of the group's proposed dog park.

The group has already cleared several previous hurdles in making the dog park a reality.

Toledo Mayor Mike Bell's approval is the last step needed before the group will be able to move forward.

A Toledo Unleashed representative says, "We anticipate that Mayor Bell will sign the lease. We do not however know when that will happen".

Toledo Unleashed is still continuing its efforts, however, to raise the $65,000 needed to build the dog park.
