Salmonella scare: More pet food brands recalled

The Kirkland Signature products affected by the recall have production codes that looks like this.

Due to potential Salmonella contamination, Diamond Pet Foods is expanding its voluntary recall of dog food to include batches of nine brands manufactured between Dec. 9, 2011 and April 7, 2012.

The move comes days after federal health officials reported 14 people had been hospitalized after handling tainted dog food. The company said no pets were sickened but declined to comment further.

In the latest release, Diamond said they are pulling more brands from store shelves as a "precaution."

Diamond Pet Foods is coordinating efforts with federal and state health and regulatory agencies and decided to independently expand the recall to ensure the safety and well-being of customers and their pets.

"We have taken corrective actions at our Gaston, S.C., facility and voluntarily expanded the recall out of concern for our customers and their pets." company officials said in a release.

Brands included in the recall include:-Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover??s Soul-Country Value-Diamond-Diamond Naturals-Premium Edge-Professional-4Health-Taste of the Wild

To determine if their pet food is recalled, consumers should check the production code on their bag. If the code has a "2" or "3" in the 9th position and an "X" in the 10th or 11th position, the product is affected by the recall. The best-before dates for the recalled products are Dec. 9, 2012 through April 7, 2013.
