Santa Clause came to town on Sunday, but it wasnâ??t on a sleigh, or with any reindeer guiding the way.
Santa arrived at Toledoâ??s National Great Lakes Museum by Tugboat. A merry crowd of kids and adults welcomed the jolly Kris Kringle to shore, many keeping warm with piping hot cups of hot chocolate. The George Grandel Company tugboat docked with a sleigh full of gifts and holiday cheer.
The event was a historical re-enactment of years past, when freighters on Lake Michigan used to arrive with Santa on-board as a Christmas surprise.
â??It was a lot of fun, it was a new experience for me being on a tugboat and to be able to be there with Santa,â?? exclaimed Anna Kolin, Development Director at the National Great Lakes Museum. She continued, â??It hasnâ??t happened in a very long time here in Toledo, and so to be able to have the National Museum of the Great Lakes bring that to Toledo we were very excited.â??
St. Nick also brought along a bundle of Christmas trees, given away free of charge with the purchase of a membership to the National Great Lakes Museum. The 8-foot trees can also be purchased for $39 without a membership.
