Saying goodbye to Nevaeh, finding killer

As visitation continues for Nevaeh Buchanan Friday, authorities continue to follow all leads regarding how the 5-year-old girl was killed.

Friends are gathering at the Merkle Funeral Service in Monroe for a second day Friday. A funeral service will be held Saturday at the Stewart Road Church of God.

The church expects an overflow crowd in the 2,000-seat sanctuary, given the outpouring of community support. Hundreds have participated in searches and vigils for the girl.

After the service, a hearse will carry Nevaeh's body to St. Joseph Cemetery. The procession will pass Munson Park and a statue of Monroe native Gen. George Custer, two of her favorite places to play.

Nevaeh was reported missing May 24 and her body was found in a crude cement grave along the River Raisin June 4.

Police have made no arrests in the case and have not named any suspects. The Monroe County Sheriff's Office says they are asking for anyone who has recently been in the area where the body was found to please call the Task Force Tip Line. Authorities are requesting information from anyone who has fished the area or has seen any vehicles or persons at that location.

Evidence gathered from the scene where the body was found last week has yet to come back from analysis at a Northville, Mich. crime lab.

If you have any information for the Task Force please call 734-243-7070.
