Sen. Brown outlines plans to refinance student loan debt

Tue, 22 Apr 2014 09:31:56 GMT — PERRYSBURG - College is just around the corner for some graduating high school seniors, but the price to enroll can leave many students buried in debt.US Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) was in northwest Ohio Monday, detailing his plans to offer better protection from predatory student loans.Sen. Brown spoke to Perrysburg High School students, trying to raise support for two bills. It's called Know Before You Owe Private Student Loan Act.The bill would require colleges to clearly inform borrowers of the difference between the risks involving federal loan rates as opposed to private loans.The other bill would allow student loan debts to be refinanced, similar to refinancing a home to get the best deal. Sen. Brown said the average debt for a student graduating this year is about $30,000.
