Five suspects who robbed a Sylvania Township bank at gunpoint Wednesday are still at large, and authorities are trying to figure out if they are the same group of men who have perpetrated similar robberies in the area.
The five male suspects, armed with shotguns, entered the Key Bank branch at 5756 W. Central Ave. around 10:50 a.m. Wednesday. After verbally demanding money from a teller, the suspects fired several shots inside the bank. No injuries were reported.
In late June, a group of five or six men entered Ella's Grocery Store at 6517 Telegraph Rd. in Bedford Twp. around 11:00 p.m. The suspects, carrying two shotguns, held clerks at gunpoint, and even shot through the door to a back room before taking off with an undisclosed amount of cash and goods. No one was seriously injured.
The suspects were dressed in dark clothes and used hoods and bandanas to cover their faces in both incidents.
Authorities believe the group may have also perpetrated two other armed robberies in Toledo within the past few weeks. In all incidents, five or six young males are said to have used two shotguns and fired a at least one shot while committing each robbery.
