      Shots fired kills dog, injures owner in Toledo home invasion

      A bullet hole can be seen at the Fernwood Avenue home where a dog was killed and man shot Tuesday afternoon.

      A 4-year-old German Shepherd was killed and a man was grazed by a bullet during a Toledo home invasion on Tuesday afternoon.

      Toledo Police say the suspect, a black man in his 20's, got into the victim's Fernwood Avenue home by threatening him with a silver 9mm handgun around 1:30 p.m.

      The gunman, dressed in all black, demanded money and then chased the victim through the home and into the backyard. The victim said while he was being pursued, the suspect started shooting at him and one bullet hit the dog.

      As the suspect left the victim's home, investigators say the gunman continued to fire at the victim and another man nearby. The seconds victim was grazed by a bullet, in the chest area, and his SUV was also hit by gunfire. The man was treated on the scene and was transported to Toledo Hospital.

      The dog was taken by his owner to a veterinarian for treatment. The German Shepherd later died as a result of his injuries.

      Officials were able to recover a number of bullets from the scene for testing and analysis.
