Sneak peek into National Museum of the Great Lakes

National Museum of the Great Lakes opens to the public, Saturday, April 26 at 10 a.m.

TOLEDO - All are invited aboard to experience the National Museum of the Great Lakes, set to open this Saturday.

The Great Lakes Historical Society will open its museum to display decades of cultural history and research of the Great Lakes in a 18,500 square foot museum.

The museum features a newly restored 618-foot lake freighter, Colonel James M. Schoonmaker Lake.

There are also hundreds of artifacts, more than 40 interactive exhibits and several acres of a maritime-themed park.

On the east side of the Veterans Glass City Memorial bridge, the museum is at the former Toledo Maritime Center and Ferry Terminal at 1701 Front St.

Visitors can access the complex from downtown Toledo by the Martin Luther King Bridge and from I-280 at the Front Street Exit.

Opening ceremonies for the public will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m.
