Snyder: Officials working to ease propane shortage

Michigan's Governor says his state continues to deal with a propane shortage.

Gov. Rick Snyder says the state is taking steps to deal with a propane shortage affecting much of the nation because of the cold winter and other factors.

Michigan is one of 30 states that have declared propane energy emergencies. Snyder says he'll issue an executive order Friday extending an exemption from hours-of-service regulations for motor carriers and drivers hauling propane and heating oil.

He took similar steps in December and early January.

The governor's office says the state has been working with the propane gas industry to resolve supply chain issues. It says the Upper Peninsula shortage eased somewhat this week as a facility in Rapid River went back online.

Still, propane inventories in the region are down 46 percent from last year and are expected to remain tight.
