Sobriety checkpoints nab drunken drivers, others in Lucas County

Two people were arrested at sobriety checkpoints over the weekend.

Sobriety checkpoints set up throughout Lucas County over the weekend potentially dangerous drunken drivers and a handful of other arrests.

Officials with the Lucas County OVI Task Force conducted checkpoints Saturday night at various locations, including Central Ave. in Sylvania Township and Airport Hwy. east of I-475.

In total, 589 vehicles were checked with 43 being pulled aside for further investigation. Officers arrested two individuals for operating a vehicle under the influence (OVI) while seven drivers were cited for driving under a suspended license. Twelve addition citations for various offenses were issued.

Authorities also arrested three people on outstanding warrants.

The enforcement was funded in part by the National Transportation Safety Administration.
