Toledo soccer fans crammed into the Claddagh Irish Pub Sunday night to support the U.S. soccer team.
For many fans the event is more than just a viewing party, itâ??s a tradition.
â??A lot of patriotism. Everybodyâ??s here. Red, white and blue,â?? Toledo native Jason Meyer said.
Fans are huddling in the pub for each USA game. Many of the fans are members of the American Outlaws, a group dedicated to strengthening the U.S. Soccer fanbase.
â??Itâ??s a great group,â?? American Outlaw Collin Rayle said. â??It brings supporters of soccer together and people that are just patriotic.â??
Fans have been coming to the Claddagh ever since the bar started hosting world cup parties, twelve years ago. The manager, JaNeil Mesteller, is an avid soccer fan and a sponsor of the Toledo Area Soccer Association. She says her World Cup parties are now bigger than ever.
â??Itâ??s awesome,â?? Mesteller said. â??You canâ??t describe the energy level. The comradery, the patriotism.â??
USA needs a draw against Germany to advance out of group play.
