Southview football players accused of kidnapping, rape of fellow student

Sylvania teens face rape charges.

A pair of student athletes from Sylvania's Southview High School are being held by authorities after being charged with the rape of a fellow student.

The two boys, ages 17 and 14, were arrested towards the end of the school day at Southview on Tuesday. They were each charged with one count of rape. The 17-year-old has faces a charge of kidnapping, according to a report.

The football players are alleged to have forced a fellow student to engage in sexual activity inside a public bathroom at Olander Park Monday afternoon. According to a Sylvania Police report, the 15-year-old victim reported the alleged crime to police just minutes after it occurred - around 3:30 p.m.

Olander Park is located on Sylvania Ave., just east and across the street from Southview High School.

The boys are being held in the Lucas County Juvenile Detention Center. They are scheduled to appear in court Oct. 1. Prosecutors say they will effort trying the 17-year-old in adult court.

Neither the police nor the school would comment on the incident. Sylvania Schools spokeswoman, Nancy Crandell, said counselors are on-hand for students and classes have continued as normal since the boys' arrests.
