Springfield student recovering after leg amputation

HOLLAND, Ohio (AP) - An Ohio girl is recovering from surgery days after an accident with a train that killed another teen.

The family of 16-year-old Brianna Mullinger says in an online journal that she had to have a leg amputated at the knee on Saturday.

An update Sunday says the surgery went well but, in the family's words, the girl is "not out of the woods yet."

She and 15-year-old Cody Brown were struck by an Amtrak passenger train Wednesday as they were crossing tracks on their walk to Springfield High School, near Toledo in northwest Ohio.

The boy was killed.

Funeral home visitation is scheduled for 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday. The funeral will be held Tuesday morning at Providence Lutheran Church in the Toledo suburb of Holland.
