Springfield teachers vote to strike

Teacher Strike

Springfield teachers unanimously voted to authorize their bargaining team to send a 10- day strike notice to the Springfield Board of Education.

Springfield Education Association (SEA) took a vote Monday, May 7 at a general membership meeting. A strike date can now be authorize by the SEA if negations fail to reach compromise.

Teacher contracts expired nearly a year ago on June 30, 2011. SEA and the Springfield Board of Education have been in negotiations for a year without reaching an agreement.

SEA represents 233 certified classroom teachers, guidance counselors, librarians, psychologists and other education professionals employed by the Springfield Board of Education.
