A Start High School student has been taken into custody after carrying a gun into school Monday.

Toledo Police say the school's resource officer was notified Monday morning that a student had brought a gun into the school. The student, identified as 18-yaer-old William Carter, III, a known member of Toledo's "LBV" gang, was located in the school's cafeteria. Police say he was approached by the resource officer and engaged in a brief scuffle before being taken to the ground and handcuffed.

No one was hurt. All students and staff are safe.

According to Toledo Public Schools, the high school went into lockdown immediately following the discovery as lockers and rooms were searched as a precautionary measure. As of early afternoon, the lockdown was lifted and students resumed their normal school day.

Carter is facing charges of carrying a concealed weapon, drug trafficking, resisting arrest, illegal conveyance, possession of drugs, and weapons under disability.

Police said in addition to a .45-handgun on his body, Carter was also found with a large amount of marijuana that was packaged for sale.
