Sylvania firefighters battle blaze & freezing temperatures, House destroyed

A WNWO viewer shot this photo of the house while it was still on fire.

Sylvania firefighters were on the scene of a house fire for hours on Tuesday afternoon, despite the bitter cold, but couldn't save the structure.

Just before 2 p.m., crews were called to the "heavily involved" blaze at a home in the 5900 block of Blossman Road near Holland- Sylvania.

Officials were warned of power lines down before arriving at the scene.

Crews are still investigating the cause but a fire official told WNWO that home owners had complained of heating trouble in the time prior to the fire.

Because of those issues, no one was home when the fire started but the damage makes the home a total loss.

With temperatures below zero degrees firefighters occasionally sought refuge inside their trucks to warm up.
