Sylvania priest to oversee Toledo diocese

Formed Toledo Bishop Blair was officially installed as Archbishop of Hartford.

The Diocese of Toledo selected an administrator to take over the responsibilities for former Toledo Bishop Leonard Blair.

Rev. Charles F. Ritter was elected in place while the diocese finds a replacement for Blair, who was officially installed as Archbishop of Hartford, Conn. on Monday.

Rev. Ritter will begin immediately.

â??The role of the Administrator is to essentially maintain the operations of the dioceseâ??to keep the status quoâ??and provide for the needs of the faithful until the next Bishop is named by the Holy Father,â?? said Father Monte Hoyles, Chancellor for the diocese.

The Toledo native currently serves as Associate Pastor of St. Joseph Parish in Sylvania. He has previously served at St. Patrick Parish in Bryan, and St. Mary Parish in Leipsic.

Ritter holds a Master of Arts degree from Mount Saint Maryâ??s Seminary in Cincinnati.
