Maumeeâ??s school board met Monday evening to discuss a contract dispute with its teacherâ??s union over insurance coverage.
The Maumee City Schools Board of Education approved a new 3-year contract based on a fact-finderâ??s report on September 9. The report recommends an increase to teacherâ??s insurance plan contributions by up to 15 percent, depending on the chosen plan. The board says it voted to approve the report as written, with the understanding that changes in health care contributions would retroactively go into effect on January 1, 2013.
The Maumee Education Association also approved the report, but now says the fact finder meant to make the insurance increases effective January 1, 2014.
School board president Glenn L. Rambo said the fact finderâ??s report can only be changed by an authorization from the State Employee Relations Board.
The school board plans to implement the terms of the new contract as they believe they are written.
