Teen driver killed, passenger injured in crash after hitting a deer

Findlay teens were traveling in Liberty Township, when an oncoming deer crossed the roadways.

LIBERTY TOWNSHIP -- A 17-year-old died and a passenger was injured in a car crash after their vehicle struck a deer Wednesday night.

Nathan McKee, of Findlay, was driving on Township Road 67 near Township Road 80, when his car hit a deer crossing the roadway, according to the Hancock County Sheriff's Office.

Officials said McKee lost control of the vehicle, veering off the roadway and rolling into a field shortly before 9 p.m.

McKee was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger in the vehicle, 17-year-old Leon Lopez, of Findlay, was sent to the Blanchard Valley Hospital. His condition is unknown.

Both teens were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
