The Ohio State Highway Patrol said it happened just after 9:45 p.m. on Howard Road just south of Rachel Road. Troopers said 20-year-old Cody Slinker was driving a 1997 Mustang Cobra. He was headed south on Howard, when he drove off the road. The car flipped over several times before coming to rest in a field.
Slinker and a back-seat passenger, 16-year-old Brandon Bartic, were sent to St. Charles Mercy hospital. They sustained minor injuries.
The front seat passenger, 14-year-old Zachery Brantley, was pronounced dead on the scene. Troopers said Brantley was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was ejected from the car.
Speed and vehicle defects appear to be factors in the crash, according to officials.
Once the investigation is complete, the case heads to the Lucas County Prosecutor's Office for possible charges.
