The Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force says a text message helped them find a wanted man.
The information came from an anonymous source and told task force members where to find 26-year-old Vincent Monroe.
Monroe is accused of injuring a Toledo man during an assault in December 2013.
â??This arrest is a great example of...how useful our anonymous text tip line has proven to be,â?? U.S. Marshal for the Northern District of Ohio Pete Elliott said. â??Sometimes people are not comfortable enough to call us directly. With the tip text line, concerned citizens can simply send us a text and remain completely anonymous.â??
The Task Force says the anonymous message in this case, and one other tip, initially lead them to an abandoned home in East Toledo.
While searching the area, officers saw several people nearby sitting on the porch of a different home.
Monroe was spotted in that group but quickly left the porch and tried to hide inside the home.
Officers surrounded the property and Monroe eventually surrendered.
The task force now wants to remind citizens that they can submit similar tips by calling 1-866-4-WANTED or by texting the word Wanted to 847411 (TIP411).
All tipsters can remain anonymous and a cash reward may be available.
