Northwest Ohio schools called off, and most businesses closed Wednesday due to level three snow emergencies. Many people had nothing to do except stay at home and wait for this most recent winter storm to pass.
However, The Village Idiot in Maumee offered an answer. "We kind of feel like we're the alternative to cabin fever actually," said Tom Sullivan, called "Sully."
Sully said that the bar hasn't come across a reason to close shop in many years, and they aren't going to let a little weather emergency stop them.
"I've been here 11 years, they've been here 16 years. We personally know for a fact, that we've been open 5,000 days in a row," said Sully. "We're open Christmas, Thanksgiving, New Years, Easter, because the neighborhood people need a place to have pizza."
He said The Village Idiot consider themselves a staple in the community. They welcome everyone whether it's just to heat up, or if the family just wants to get out of the house.
"If your heat is off, come spend the day with us. we don't care," said Sully. "Schools are closed, and we'll have people show up with kids, bring their kids in for pizza for lunch. Kids are always welcome here."
According to Sully, there are three things they say never run out of at the Maumee staple. "We never run out of beer, pizza, and toilet paper."
The bar has live music every night, seven days a week.
