Toledo Area Sanitary District is currently spraying for mosquitoes

As summer approaches, the warm temperatures are bringing out more bugs.

This means Toledo Area Sanitary District (TASD)'s Mosquito Control division is spraying all over the county.

Mosquitos can often spread harmful diseases like Zika and the West Nile Virus. Crews will survey mosquito populations to determine where they should schedule nighttime "fogging" treatments.

"We always want to take any kind of chemical application seriously," said TASD General Manager Paul Bauman. "The good thing about mosquito control products are everything is registered and tested by the EPA and approved for use. We have a specific set of guidelines for how we can use those products so as long as we follow the guidelines and use those products appropriately, then there's a fair amount of low risk associated with what we're doing."

There are 361 service maps in Lucas County. To see spray schedules, visit the TASD website.
