Toledo city councilman charged in bar assault
TOLEDO, Ohio (WNWO) —
A Toledo city councilman was arrested Thursday night after allegedly assaulting a man at a downtown bar.
68-year-old councilman Larry Sykes now faces a simple assault charge following the incident at Georgjz419 on Adams Street.
Sykes is running for reelection to council in next month’s election.
According to the police report, Sykes grabbed the victim, Julian Mack, by the neck and smacked him in the mouth.
Police say the incident was caught on video at the bar.
Sykes has been released on his own recognizance and is due in court on Monday.
