Toledo man known for helping less fortunate arrested after shooting homeless man

Police have released the identities of two men involved in an argument that led to gunfire Friday morning in downtown Toledo.

According to witnesses outside St. Paul's Community Center on 13th Street, Louis Barton and Houston Hart were involved in an argument outside the center around 9:05 a.m. During that verbal fight, Hart went to his vehicle, retrieved a handgun, and shot Barton while in the street.

People familiar with Hart said Friday that is he a good man who often helps the homeless.

Barton, who is reportedly a homeless man himself, was taken to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center with multiple gunshot wounds.

Hart fled the scene. After receiving a call that he was hiding at the LaSalle Apartments, 513 Adams Street, police located Hart and arrested him.

Hart is being held in the Lucas County Jail.
