A Toledo man who confessed to the fatal stabbing of his mother was handed a life sentence Monday morning.
24-year-old Anthony Bertolina was sentenced to life in prison with eligibility for parole after 30 years for the December 2013 stabbing death of Mary Bertolina.
Back in December, Bertolina admitted to Toledo Police that he stabbed his mother with a hunting knife, but did not give a motive. Officials found Mary stabbed to death in her bedroom, according to court documents.
In May, Bertolina pleaded guilty to aggravated murder and told Judge Ruth Ann Franks that his heroin addiction led to the stabbing.
He said the addiction cost him his home and his job and that he began stealing from his mother.
