Toledo movie house being prepped for demolition

Demolition is underway at the West Toledo site of the former Showcase Cinemas Toledo on Secor Rd.

National Amusements says it plans to demolish the building and market the land for sale by the end of the year. Crews have been spotted putting up fencing to prep the building for demolition.

The former theater at 3500 Secor Rd. closed in 2005. Last Spring, several regional hotel owners expressed interest in building on the West Toledo site. Under a site plan, the current structure, built in 1964, was to be demolished to make way for a pair of hotels and a retail strip on the property. That plan was withdrawn months later.

The Secor Rd. theater is among three other vacant movie houses in the area. National Amusements also owns the former Super Cinemas in the Spring Meadows shopping complex and the former Franklin Park Cinemas at 5235 Monroe St.

Rave Motion Pictures currently owns the recently closed Cinemas De Lux on Conant St. in Maumee.
