Toledo Police Department looking to hire new officers

The Toledo Police Department is looking for a few good men and women.

On Wednesday, they kicked off their first day of active recruiting for a new police class.

In an initiative called "Toledo Needs You", TPD is looking to find a group of 75 new hires.

"What we are doing is an outreach to make sure, for one, we are able to fill these numbers and ranks...We need to be able to fill in our organization and we want to be able to increase the amount of diversity we have in this organization," Toledo Mayor Mike Bell said of the hiring campaign.

Those interested in a position are encouraged to fill out an "interest card" online.

Once filled out, TPD will contact those that are eligible for hiring and provide them with an application to be submitted from November 13th through the 16th.

There are a few requirements for applicants: you must be between 20 and 34 years old and have a high school diploma or GED.

Applicants are no longer required to live in Toledo in order to qualify.

After making it through the application process, candidates will be required to pass a civil service exam in December.
