A contingent of over 50 local, state and federal law enforcement officers canvassed a Central Toledo neighborhood talking to residents about the Toledo Community Initiative to Reduce Violence(T-CIRV). The Toledo Police Department established that joint police/community task force last year to enlist the help of citizens to combat crime.
The FBI, ATF, Ohio State Highway Patrol, Lucas County Sheriff's Office and the Toledo Police Department participated in the canvassing. Officers walked door to door in the Smith Park area(Hoag to Grosebeck and Door to Norwood, and along Fernwood). Vita Cooper has lived in the neighborhood since 1995. "I am just happy to see that they are concerned because usually in these areas we don't get the attention we feel that we deserve," Ms. Cooper said.
Agents, and officers gave residents a postcard that contained information about (T-CIRV). The card also had a message offering help to anyone trying to leave a gang.
