Toledo police investigating shooting death involving three people
TOLEDO, Ohio —
Toledo police say the 22nd homicide of 2018 involves a neighbor reportedly shooting and killing a man after attacking woman with hatchet.
Lieutenant Kevan Toney says officers responded to a person shot on Nelson Avenue east of Lodge Avenue shortly after noon on Wednesday.
Upon arrival officers located a man suffering from at least one gunshot wound and a woman suffering from multiple lacerations.
The unidentified man was later pronounced dead at the University of Toledo Medical Center.
53-year-old Lakita Wilson of Toledo received treatment for non life-threatening injuries.
Police add the relationship between the man and Wilson is unknown at this time.
Initial accounts of the incident indicate the unidentified man was attacking Ms. Wilson with a hatchet when nearby resident 29 year-old Benjamin Hand ob\served the assault.
Hand then shot the man at least once ending the attack to Wilson.
Hand is being interviewed by detectives and the investigation is ongoing.
Detectives will confer with the Lucas County Prosecutor’s Office.
The name of the deceased will be released once the Lucas County Coroner’s Office has made positive identification.
